Open frame
An open set is the engine, alternator and base with no acoustic enclosure. It is the cheapest build and the easiest to service, but it is loud and exposed, so it needs a plant room or a walled compound away from people. It is the natural base for the other three forms.
Silent canopy
A silent canopy wraps the set in an enclosure with intake and exhaust silencers and absorbs the noise. Mobile and trailer mounted
A mobile set mounts the engine, alternator, fuel and controller on a road trailer with braking and lighting, so it moves with the job. A containerised set packs the engine, alternator, fuel tank, control and sometimes a walk-in service space into a shipping container shell. Only inside a shelter or a walled compound away from people, because it is loud and exposed to weather. For an outdoor site near anyone, a silent canopy is the safer default.
Is a silent canopy weatherproof?
It is weather resistant for outdoor siting, with enclosed panels and protected intakes, but it is not a sealed shipping container. For fully enclosed remote duty, the containerised form is the right call.
Do mobile sets need a special trailer?
